Wetlands & Wheatears 1-day Itinerary

This itinerary combines the rich Mediterranean scrub lands in Garraf Natural Park with the surprisingly sheer variety of birds to be found in Llobregat Delta marshes.

Llobregat Delta hosts incredible specialities such as Purple Swamphen (Porpyrhio porphyrio), Moustached Warbler (Acrocephalus melanopogon), Great Spotted Cuckoo (Clamator glandarius), Audouin’s Gull (Larus audouinii), Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina), Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides) and Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minimus). The variety of birds include riberine birds such as Iberian Green Woopecker (Picus sharpei), Common Waxbill (Estrilda astrild) and Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus). Whitin its small area over 320 species of birds have been recorded!

Garraf Natural Park is a hilly, dry massif 20 kilometres South of Barcelona. Its rocky slopes hosts Mediterranean specialities such as Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata), Black Wheatear (Oenanthe leucura), Blue Rock Thrush (Monticola solitarius), Common Rock Thrush (Monticola saxatilis), Spectacled Warbler (Sylvia conspicillata), Woodchat Shrike (Lanius senator), Thekla Lark (Galerida theklae), Black-eared Wheatear (Oenanthe hispanica), Great Spotted Cuckoo (Clamator glandarius) and Alpine Accentor (Prunella collaris) among many other!!


Steppes and more 1-day Itinerary

Steppes are an unique ecosystem hosting some extremely scarce or endangered species. Along these itinerary we will visit different steppe & Mediterranean spots in Lleida Steppes that are home to a huge variety of birds. Some key species here include Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax), Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus), Stone Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus), Calandra Lark (Melanocorypha calandra), Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus), Little Owl (Athene noctua), Spectacled Warbler (Sylvia conspicillata), Orphean Warbler (Sylvia hortensis), Great Spotted Cuckoo (Clamator glandarius) and many more!

After a morning in the steppes, it will be time to enjoy a major wetland providing a good number of specialities such as Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus) and good range of waders and passerines on passage.


Pyrenees in Summer 1-day Itinerary

The steep slopes in Pyrenees provide a wide range of high mountain birds, all of them available by a 70 minutes car transfer from Barcelona city centre. Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park is an excellent setting to look for Lammergeier (Gypaetos barbatus), Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Citril Finch (Carduelis citrinella), Ring Ouzel (Turdus torquatus), Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius), Common Rock Thrush (Monticola saxatilis), Alpine Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), Red-billed Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), Alpine Accentor (Prunella collaris), Rock Bunting (Emberiza cia) among many other birds living in high mountains.

The area provides great sights to Chamoises (Rupicabra rupicabra pyrenaica), Marmots (Marmotta marmotta) and Red Deers (Cervus elaphus) as well. July and August provides unforgettable days to all those who loves butterflies!!
